Ibalik ang Disiplina sa Bayan ni Juan

What is Discipline? ... napakarami pong definition...

"Discipline is the instant willingness and obedience to all orders, respect for authority, self reliance and teamwork - Wikipedia

"The ability to do the right thing even when no one is watching or suffer the consequences of guilt which produces pain in our bodies, through pain comes discipline." United States Marine Corps

One of the most stinging remarks that he made concerned the fact that "a country cannot prosper on democracy alone if the people do not have discipline" Alam nyo ba na maraming mga politicians and na offend sa sinabi ni Lee Kuan? Inisip nila ito ay pang-iinsulto sa Bayan ni Juan. Pero dapat nating maintindihan, Lee Kuan was not insulting the Filipino people but was man enough to make a simple and honest observation from an outsider's point of view.

Sad as it may seem but nevertheless very true whether we like it or not is the fact that there are traffic laws, rules and regulations in this country, but road discipline to the average Filipino driver instead of being first, is one of the last if not THE last item in his list of priorities. Way back ago...sa isang TV show "Tatak Pinoy" sila po ay nag-conduct ng surver at ito po ang kanilang natuklasan. That one of the top three negative negative traits that foreigners see in us Filipinos is the LACK OF ROAD DISCIPLINE.

Mayroong ilan na nag-sabi na likas n daw sa isang Pinoy ang lumabag sa batas or Filipinos enjoy breaking rules or has a natural aversion to any kind of rule. Whatever it is, some drivers feel very "macho." When they pass on through the red light? When they escape an accident? When they unload their passengers right in the middle of an intersection as if it were their own driveway or feel very powerful. When they zoom down a street horns blaring with total disregard for the safety of the other people using the street.

And... yet everybody complains about traffic jams specially some public utility drivers and truck drivers who are very quick to point out that the root of the whole problem is the "lack of discipline." Unawain po ninyo itong mabuti, kung papansinin ninyong mabuti itong mga taong ito na nag-rereklamo or these people who complain a lot are the main culprits themselves because if you ask them what DISCIPLINE is, it is something that "the OTHER guy is guilty of.. not me."

Huwag na po nating hintayin pa ang iba na disiplinahin ang kanilang mga sarili kung sa atin pa lang ay puwede nang mag-simula o mag-umpisa. DISCIPLINE YOURSELF FIRST Set an example for yourself.. for your family... your group... your community... among your peers. There is no way that the traffic conditions in the country will improve if anarchy on the road prevails.

"Sa ika-uunlad ng bayan... Disiplina ang kailangan"

I believe that the famous phrase was used not only because it sounded "good" because it really does, but because it addressed and identified the problem of the LACK OF DISCIPLINE.
